Economic contributions of battlefield parks

Client: Civil War Trust

About the project: Harbinger completed an analysis that examines economic impacts of tourism at 20 U.S. battlefield parks from the Civil War, Revolutionary War, War of 1812, U.S.-Mexico War, Indian Wars, and World War II.

This review of battlefield parks is revealed not only the scale of the economic benefits these sites offer, but also some lessons about what makes battlefields distinctive among visitor attractions, and what enhances their economic contributions.

The findings of this study helped inform a new Civil War Trust initiative dubbed “Campaign 1776,” which focuses on enhancing protection for Revolutionary War and War of 1812 battlefields.
